Las Vegas Police Launch Investigation int0 Officer-Involved Shooting Near Tropicana and Koval

On the morning of October 4, 2024, Las Vegas police officers were involved in a fatal shooting incident outside a business located near the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Koval Lane. This event has raised significant concern within the community and prompted an investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).

According to Capt. Kurt McKenzie of the LVMPD’s Officer of Internal Oversight and Constitutional Policing, officers responded to a call from employees at a local business who reported a trespasser. The situation escalated quickly when officers arrived on the scene. 

Although the individuals involved had left the business premises, one man remained outside and was described as “extremely agitated” while holding a knife. As officers exited their patrol vehicle, the man reportedly charged at one of them. 

In response, an officer fired their weapon. The man continued his aggressive approach toward another officer, prompting further shots to be fired as he advanced. Despite attempts to subdue him, he fell to the ground shortly after attempting to flee. 

Medical assistance was rendered immediately after the altercation, but the man was pronounced dead upon arrival at University Medical Center. As of now, his identity has not been released to the public.

McKenzie addressed reporters during a press conference, emphasizing that all officers involved were unharmed and that they were seeking any video footage or eyewitness accounts from the public. 

He urged anyone with information to contact LVMPD or Crime Stoppers.”These events unfold extremely fast,” McKenzie stated when asked why less-lethal options were not utilized during the confrontation.
